Past, Present, Future

As part of the Social Studies curriculum, we have been learning about the 'past, present, and future' in Kindergarten.  I think that it was an eye opener for many of the students, as to how life was in the past.

Each student wrote an opinion piece in regards to the following question: "If you could go back in time and live in the past, would you?  Why or why not?"  14 students responded that they wouldn't want to live in the past, while 2 replied that they would want to.  Here are a few of the student responses:
  • I would not want to live in the past because you would have to use an outhouse and get water from a pump.
  • I would not like to live in the past because I wouldn't want to be in a classroom with everybody else or use an outhouse when it's cold.
  • I would like to live in the past because I would like to use a chamber pot.  It's right under your bed.

We concluded our unit, by learning about how people change over time.  Each student was able to look at pictures of themselves, showing the past and present.  (Thank you to everyone for bringing pictures in!)  Below you will find pictures of students hard a work, creating their own timeline.  Their timeline illustrates what they looked like in the past, what they currently look like, and what they think they will look like in the future.
