What's Inside of a Pumpkin?

Last Tuesday we began our first science unit on pumpkins.  We began our unit by creating a KWL chart (what we know, want to know, and what we learned).  The students generated many questions, as to things that they would like to learn about pumpkins.

Here's a list of the students' questions and the investigations that we have been conducting:
  • How tall is our pumpkin? (11 unifix cubes tall)
  • How many creases does our pumpkin have? (20)
  • How much does our pumpkin weigh? (13 pounds)
  • Will our pumpkin sink or float? (float)
  • What is inside of our pumpkin? (orange pulp and seeds)
  • How many seeds does our pumpkin have (670)
Today we investigated what was inside of our class pumpkin.  Below you will find pictures capturing the students sorting the pumpkin's contents.
